28 Feb, 2010 - Out to Lunch - Organised by John and Bernadette Holden
An enthusiastic turnout for our first run of the year. The weather was kind, if a little on the cold side, with the odd glimpse of sunshine.

Twenty two cars came to Huntleys for coffee and a chat before the start. A number of members were keen to find out more about the IOM trip and luckily Chris Haywood was on the run to give them information. It was good to see some ‘older’ members back after a break and a good few newer members.

Huntleys was very busy and we were scattered round the cafe, so Marian and I were a little late for the start and ended up near the back (unusual for me not to be ready for a racing start near the front).

Most tops were down for the start and remained so throughout the day. As we left Tim and Sandra arrived, so it was just “turn round and straight off”.

The first part was nearly forty miles of twisting roads once we had covered the four miles of main road to get into the country. As usual, it was impossible to keep as a whole group. We were in the middle of a group of ten cars, but this broke up over the delightfully twisty Bentham road, where there was still plenty of snow at the sides, and suddenly the car in front waved us past and we were leaders. At that point my navigator realised she hadn’t been concentrating so we led a line of five cars an impromptu route through Clapton to Ingleton. We all wandered off looking for refreshments and loos, with strict instructions from our “dear leader” to be back by one. As we walked into the car park most were already leaving so we ended up near the back again.

The second half of the run, just over forty miles, was more good MX5 roads ending up at the Norman Jepson Beefeater close to the M6. Some said their goodbyes in the car park but a good number stopped for a break, and many for a meal, before heading for home.

Peter and Christine Haslam joined us at the pub for a meal.

When we left we followed Stuart and Sarah to their place to avail myself of Stuart’s services to top up our Air-Con.

Our thanks to John and Bernadette for knowing such a good selection of roads and planning it all for us. Nice to see some thank-you posts on the Forum.
